A Snowy Little Service by graphic-lee A Snowy Little Service by graphic-lee
This is a scene I drew inspired by a fanfic titled, "Twilight's List" by Kits. The fic can easily be found on Fimfiction here;
Twilight's List

I tried a few new things with coloring I haven't done before. It's strongly influenced by my minimal experience with Copics. Please tell me what you think in the comments if you can. I'd love to hear some advice. :3

11/6/12 EDIT: Whoa. Comin back to 200+ miscellaneous messages is kinda Awesome! Thank you to whoever it was that got me on EQD! x3

Twilight's List was amazing, and this scene does that sweet, sugary ending justice.

Hah, nice! I really like how bright the picture is; the light hue you gave both Dashie and Twily really gives it that "sunny winter's day with lots of bright white snow around" feeling.

I wonder if having someone pull on your tail like that isn't uncomfortable, but presumably Dashie, as the element of loyalty, considers it more important to help her friend. That, and she'd never let on it's uncomfortable, anyway - she's got a reputation to maintain! :)

It's fine. I support copying as a method of practice. Just credit me if you feel the similarity is close.

this is really nice, and you should be proud of your skill, but I noticed a couple things that bother me. firstly, I'd like to point out that rainbow dash's mane sticks out a tad too far, and her forehead is also a bit too large. also, the eyes seem to be a weird mix of style. Don't get me wrong, it's a good eye, but it seems like the wrong style for the rest of the picture. other than that, I'd say it's fantastic!

It looks great. The shading just seems to fit more smoothly with a snowy backdrop. Though i am, quite incessantly in fact, always drawn back to Rainbow's cocky face. She is in control, there is no doubt. Love it.

The ultra-strong highlights work very nicely with the bright colours. It all suggests a bright winter day with stark sunshine.

Also, imagining this in motion -- Twilight's juddery, uncertain motions and Dash's confident glide -- is just too cute for words. : D

I like the coloring. It kind of gives the impression of a very bright lighting, which is kind of realistic if you're outdoors on a sunny day and surrounded by snow. Sun reflecting off of snow can be blindingly bright. The only problem with that is, it wouldn't be reflecting onto the ponies with the way you have them shaded. I do like attempts at minimalist coloring though. I'm not very good at them either!

Have to say I preferred the earlier version without the white shading. There's a kind of pop-through effect where the white of the shading flattens the ponies onto the background. That said, it's certainly striking, and a technique I'd like to experiment with myself. Perhaps it would pop-through less if you chose a light position that would let you isolate the 'shading' whites from the 'background' whites with a bigger buffer of color.
